FOOTPRINTS CHILD CARE CENTER (Footprints Child Care Center)

Observation

(1) There are areas of chipping paint throughout the center. (2)(a) Choking hazards were accessible to infants (pistachio shells, large hair ball, bread clip, hair tie) in the infant room and to toddlers (small toys, misc. items and HotWheels cars in toy bins) in the toddler room. Debris on the playground could pose choking hazards (eg. small pieces of sharped edge plastic, bottle caps, garbage approx. 1" in diameter). (2)(c) Electrical cords were accessible to children throughout the center. Beading strings were accessible in toy bins in the toddler room. (2)(d) Plastic bags were accessible on the bottom of the changing table and on the floor in the girls' bathroom. (3)(a) Knives and kitchen sheers were accessible to children in the eating/school age room. A sharp chopper was accessible in a hallway cabinet. A long screw was protruding and accessible on the corner of a broken cabinet in the eating/school age room. Bolts were too long on the chain link fence. Push pins were in accessible to children. A push pin was on the floor in the infant room. (3)(b) An espresso machine, electirc griddle, slow cooker and toaster were plugged in and accessible to children in the eating/school age room. (3)(f) -Miscellaneous items were stacked about three feet in height in a corner of the infant room. There was no barrier to make the area inaccessible to children. -A stapler was on the edge of a counter and accessible in the toddler room and could fall on a child. (3)(g) Multiple toys outside had broken parts or rust (pirate ship climber, play kitchen, metal dump truck and metal bulldozer). (5)(a) Outlets are tamper resistant type, per director, but the shutters of many outlets in classrooms were stuck in the open position nullifying the safety of the TR outlets. (5)(f) Extension cords and power strips were used throughout the center on air conditioners, kitchen appliances in the eating/school age room and on the dishwasher in the janitor's closet.
